I have started listen back to some of the interviews to see which words and stories could be used for the final pieces of music. The conversations I have had with people so far have been extremely varied and incredibly interesting; it’s been eye-opening catching a glimpse into the lives and experiences of others, ranging from stories of asylum to experiences of changing gender. I have also been surprised at how open people have been with me – essentially two strangers coming together to discuss often quite private things! This has provided me with an amazing collection of stories to use for my compositions which aim to capture the essence of Berlin in the 21st century and the people who have come to know the city as their home. Now I just have the task of deciding which words and stories to choose which I feel best represent the variety of Berlin and its people.
